Herb, The Vegetarian Dragon
By Diana Rogers
Do you suppose dragons originated in China, England or both? Dragons play a very significant role in Chinese culture. And then there's St.George over in England, who was famous for killing dragons. The research on this subject is endless, starting from good and bad dragons to Puff, the Magic Dragon! One favorite children's book that comes to my mind is "Herb, The Vegetarian Dragon." There have been many great reviews of the book by adding that it's a magical read for all new readers, young and old. It's available in hardcover or paperback. This book offers a clever twist from all the other dragons in the forest who like to raid Castles and carrying off princesses to eat. The dragon named Herb, well you guessed it, is a vegetarian. He grows a lovely garden of vegetables and is quite happy, content and pleased with himself. One day Herb is captured by a few knights of the castle. And coming to his rescue are a group of dragons who will help him IF he eats meat. This is a cute book with pictures that will make you chuckle. The theme of accepting one another's differences as to whether one should eat meat or not will give you food for thought... a must read for everyone!
